WoW Forever VS. Classic, What’s the Difference?

What is World of Warcraft: Forever, the new WoW game that Blizzard announced at Blizzcon this year, and why players hyped as hell for it? You might have seen the trailer for Forever and were left scratching your head wondering what kind of game this is and where it sits between modern and classic. Well scratch no more, dear reader! I’m here to help demystify WoW Forever, after which I’m sure you’ll leave going, “okay yeah that’s pretty cool actually.”

Where Are We Now with WoW?
There’s currently two ways to play World of Warcraft: past and present. On the one hand, you’ve got the modern version of WoW with all of the latest expansions (the current one being Midnight), updated graphics, and systems that have been progressively tweaked and honed over decades. And then you have WoW Classic, which drops you straight in the world of Azeroth as it was during the simpler, clunkier, grind-ier times of the mid-oughts, if reveling in nostalgia is your thing.

Well, as it turns out, reveling in nostalgia is a lot of people’s thing. So much so that it creates a sort of dilemma: eventually you explore so much of the past that you run out of “past” to explore, then you catch up to the present, where Modern is today. But then what? How can put more past in the past so it never becomes the present?

      Welcome to the Multiverse
Well, Blizzard has found the solution to this confusing time paradox. Much like a superhero movie, we’re hopping to an alternate timeline where the past is forever. Enter World of Warcraft: Forever.

Touted as “Classic plus,” WoW Forever attempts to preserve the WoW experience as it was circa 2004, but with a ton of new content to explore and quality of life improvements from the modern version of WoW that long-time players have become accustomed to. WoW Forever isn’t even out of beta yet, and it’s already crashing Blizzard’s servers out of sheer demand. So this is gonna be good.

      So What’s New?
New content in WoW Forever includes four new zones— Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, Riverglades, and Shen'dralas, over 1,000 new quests, a new 15v15 battleground called Darkspear Islands, new race and class combos, a new race of high elves called Skyborne, updated world visuals, and more! They really put the “plus” in “Classic plus” with this one.

The game also boasts a hard level cap of 60, which means late-game progression becomes horizontal rather than vertical. That means you’re likely going to be gear hunting rather than level grinding when all is said and done. Gear lovers, rejoice!

      A New Way to Play
One of the biggest changes coming to WoW Forever, however, is the support for controllers. You might be asking: how in the world are you able to play a game with so many keybinds on a controller in the first place? Well, it’s actually pretty simple, but I go into that in another article, which you should totally check out!

But if you’re the kind of keyboard commander who simply loves too much the raw thrill of punching in spells with honest-to-goodness, finger-to-key action, then the Command Series KB7 Keyboard is just the tool for you. With the KB7’s premium double‑shot PBT keycaps, a slim aluminum‑reinforced chassis, and Hall Effect switches for ultra‑fast precision and adjustable actuation, popping bloodlust in the middle of a chaotic fight never felt so satisfying.
