What We Just Learned About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ Mode

Check your calendars! Yup, it’s DMZ week, and every day there have been a ton of new updates and reveals for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s much hyped returning game mode, DMZ. (With much more to come, so bookmark this blog!)

      Player Progression

If you played DMZ back in 2022, the first thing you might notice about the new DMZ is that it has a hint of… Arc Raiders to it. That’s due to the addition of persistent systems built around a new hub area, the FOB, or Forward Operating Base. Essentially, you’re going to have to be more budget-conscious when it comes to infil and especially mindful of dying and losing your hard-earned goodies before properly exfiltrating. For your efforts, you can build up your FOB and admire all of the juicy rewards you earn as you progress through the game’s 70 levels.

Those rewards include player customization and perks, as well as over a dozen different stations to add your base and progression items attached to them, including a 3D Printer for crafting gear, a Gunsmith for building weapons and attachments, Vendors for buying items of all kinds, a Bounty Leaderboard, and much more.

Wait, did you say bounty leaderboard?

Yep, DMZ features a system that will place bounties on your fellow Operators this time around, earning you more DMZ Cash when you take them down. If you have a bounty on your own head, you can similarly use DMZ Cash to pay off your bounty, hopefully taking some heat off of you so you don’t get targeted by everybody and their brother while you’re out on a mission.

      Hunting in Hajin

Speaking of missions, the new map, Hajin, is where you’ll be spending all of your time on the ground in DMZ, and it’s simply massive, boasting over 60 named locations and hundreds of unique buildings to explore. MW4 is set in Korea this time around as a conflict breaks out between the North and South. Naturally, you find yourself smack dab in the middle of that conflict in an exclusion zone that sits right on the border between the Korean peninsula and Russia.

Hajin isn’t just a place to hunt other players for loot and cash, however. There will also be story missions! In an official video, developers say the story of DMZ will manifest as a series of objectives that will take you deeper with every mission, as gathering intel and completing challenges will help you piece together the larger story. These missions also serve to help with onboarding, so they’re great for bridging the gap for players who have never played extraction shooters before. It’s also a great option for players who simply want a more guided introduction to the new features of this DMZ iteration.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, so now’s a great time to make sure you’re ready to hit Hajin with guns blazing. And by guns, I mean an elite controller. The Victrix™ Pro BFG™ Reloaded Wireless Modular Controller will help you play like a pro with mappable buttons, 5-stop Clutch Triggers with Hair-Trigger mode, three customizable modules with built-in Hall-Effect technology, and eleven interchangeable components, including an elite Sniper Stick for unmatched precision and control.
