GTA ONLINE SET FOR LIBERTY CITY MAP EXPANSION, SAYS INSIDER
March 31, 2022
Having relaunched GTA Online on next-gen consoles as a standalone game, the next phase will no doubt come from adding even more content to keep fans happy. Lord knows the new GTA+ subscription service isn’t going to suffice.
Now it’s not too surprising then to see that insiders have started discussing a big new expansion coming to GTA Online very soon. Supposedly we’ll soon be visiting the home of Niko Bellic, with a Liberty City map expansion on the cards.

As reported by ComicBook, Portuguese insider @Matheusbr9895_ told fans on Twitter (via Google Translation):
“Recent information I get from sources, there’s a BIG summer update coming to GTA Online, and we’ll see good connections between them… Map expansion!”
Intriguingly though, the insider added two further emojis of both sunglasses and the Statue of Liberty, with a final sign off that simple read “Soon!”. As you can imagine, this has lead some fans to believe we’ll be heading back to Liberty City, potentially with the GTA Online Summer Update this year.
Now as many GTA Online fans will know there have been numerous rumors and occasions when ‘leakers’ have tipped a Liberty City expansion.
In 2020 GAMINGbible reported that GTA Online was getting “A Massive Liberty City Update” after a Reddit user – markothemexicam – claimed to have a roomate that used to work for Rockstar North before being let go with 100 other employees. The leaker had previously (accurately) predicted the GTA V PlayStation 5 announcement, as well as a handful of other updates for GTA Online, and had this to say on the potential expansion:
“[My roommate] said that the new location is Liberty City,” he explained. “Niko Bellic is coming back, with his voice talent Michael Hollick. The heist is about robbing gold reserves in Liberty City. Many freemode activities and Quick Jobs will be added to remastered Liberty City and future updates for PS5 will be based on Liberty City.”
Could Liberty City finally be coming to GTA Online in 2022? Keep those fingers crossed, but only time will tell.
