Escape From Tarkov is the hardcore extraction shooter that fits a perfect niche within the gaming community, and fans have adored the title for quite some time now.
One of the main mechanics of the game is the usual wipes, and with the December 2023 wipe here, some players are experiencing an error when trying to boot up the game.
Here’s what we know.
Escape From Tarkov Gateway Timeout Error: Causes, Solutions and More
Tarkov typically has its wipe every six months or so, with the last one occurring back in August, 2023; so at first glance, it appears to be a bit early for a brand new Tarkov wipe; this time, it is a special circumstance.
The December 2023 wipe has introduced the brand new map, Ground Zero, but with all the joy of a new Tarkov wipe, also comes some errors most of the time when the patch first goes live.
If you’re experiencing the gateway timeout error when booting up the game, it can be dwindled down to a few reasons, which we’ve outlined below.
- Network error
- Either the Escape From Tarkov servers are not responding in time, or there is an issue with your connection to the servers themselves.
- Sever error
- The EFT servers are offline at the time of trying to get onto the game, causing this error to occur.
This is a common error when the game wipes, as more often than not, players will spend numerous hours trying to get onto the game. However, we do recommend seeing if you’ve got the latest update installed, and in this case, that is version 0.14.0.00.
Furthermore, if all else fails, try reinstalling the launcher, and be sure to check Tarkov’s Twitter page, to see if they’ve commented on the issue.
