2020’S BEST MULTIPLAYER CONSOLE GAMES AND THE BEST HEADSETS TO PLAY THEM WITH

Best of the best multiplayer on console.

November 3, 2020

2020 is the year console gaming saw major multiplayer walls broken down.  Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo decided to play nice with one another, paving the way for multiple games that allow for cross-play and cross progression.  Now you can play on any console you want, and take all your save data with you. This new, open approach to multiplayer gaming lets friends play together no matter what console they own, which is the way it should have always been.  To celebrate the freedom, here’s the best multiplayer gaming you can have on consoles in 2020, and the best headsets for each one.

Already play these games and want to skip to the headsets? Check out our updated gift guides here and here!

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is one of the biggest success stories of the year. Combining the Battle Royale genre with the sensibilities and simplicity of Super Mario, Fall Guys gives players a game show-like atmosphere where they all rush to win the ever-important crown. There can only be one winner, and a random roulette wheel of stages ensures that each journey to the top will be a true challenge.  While your friends can’t really help you while you play, joining in with buddies for some voice chat can provide a great backdrop to the experience, along with a little company for your misery when you meet your inevitable doom!

Recommended Headset: Recon 70

Call of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty really made a name for itself on consoles, and support for the franchise is bigger than ever in 2020.  That’s thanks to the spin-off title, Call of Duty: Warzone.  Now we have a game that looks and feels like Call of Duty, while injecting the super-popular Battle Royale gameplay found in games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.  Run and gun your way to the top in a battle against up to 200 other players in total.  It’s going to be an intense, over-the-top experience, which is exactly what you want from the Call of Duty franchise.

Recommended Headset: Stealth 700 Gen 2

Overwatch

Overwatch has been thriving since its 2016 release, and things are still going strong in 2020.  As fans gear up for the previously-announced sequel, the original Overwatch continues to heat things up with player tweaks, map revamps, experimental modes, and much more.  Team play in Overwatch is where it’s at, as a squad with good communication is an absolute must.  Players who know their roles, and constant chatter on the mic can help push a team to the top of the rankings.  Always fast-paced and action-heavy, Overwatch offers an amazing multiplayer experience.

Recommended Headset: Stealth 600 Gen 2

Fortnite

There have been plenty of other Battle Royale games to try and steal Fortnite’s thunder, but none have managed to do so.  While Fortnite may not have been the first kid on the Battle Royale block, it’s the one to nail the genre.  The perfect mix of intense gunplay and silly skins, along with a sprinkling of its unique build mechanic, has made sure Fornite continues to hold a spot on the top of the charts.  With amazing crossover content every week and a constantly refreshed map, Fortnite is here to stay for years to come.

Recommended Headset: Recon 70

Apex Legends

While Fortnite might be the go-to Battle Royale game, it’s not the only one to bring in players by the millions.  Apex Legends has managed to carve out a niche for itself, and it’s growing with every month that passes.  Apex Legends is definitely more fast-paced than its competition, and has a visual style that helps separate it from the pack.  With subsequent seasons bringing in new characters, and a Switch version releasing in 2021, Apex Legends players will soon have more reason than ever to dive in and take on the opposition.

Recommended Headset: Stealth 600 Gen 2

Overcooked! 2

You’ve gotten a Victory Royale…you’ve taken home a crown…but have you completed a multi-step recipe with a three-star rating?  Plenty of console games offer intense multiplayer action, but none may be as stressful as Overcooked! 2.  What looks like a cutesy mini-game affair quickly reveals itself as a multitasker’s nightmare.  There’s nothing quite like a multiplayer session in Overcooked! 2, as a kitchen can turn into absolute chaos without a clear set of directions for the team to follow.  If you’re not ready to work with your fellow chefs, get ready for a restaurant shutdown!

Recommended Headset: Recon 70

Minecraft

Minecraft is the biggest success story in gaming for the last decade, and there’s good reason for that.  Minecraft lets players do what they want, how they want.  Dig through tunnels and fight off enemies while playing in Survival mode, take it easy and create works of art in Creative mode, or jump into the online portals and see what the world has created.  Minecraft is one of the few games on this list that doesn’t require twitch skills or an intense focus, unless you want it to.  There’s so much to see and do in Minecraft, and friends of all skill levels can join in and have an amazing time.

Recommended Headset: Stealth 600 Gen 2, Stealth 700 Gen 2, Recon 70, Elite Pro 2… any of them. Minecraft is universal.

Warframe

Warframe could very well be the best value gaming has to offer.  The game itself is free-to-play, but it offers an amount of content that is far beyond even some of the biggest AAA traditional games.  Warframe really has a little bit of everything, offering first-person shooting, close-quarters combat, space travel, customization to an almost endless degree, open-world exploration, and countless other features.  If you haven’t given Warframe a chance, you absolutely need to get some friends together and hop into the adventure.  Just be warned; what you find here could keep you entertained for years and years to come.

Recommended Headset: Stealth 700 Gen 2
